Professional Clothes Drive

It is our mission to provide adequate resources in career development for young professionals. To secure this mission we host professional clothes drives, receiving clothing donations from our communities and/or corporate partners and donating them to local career closets.
What's in it for you other than an intense internal satisfaction in helping young professionals?
Did you know that you may be eligible to claim a charitable deduction for your ACTS Professional Clothes donations, If you itemize deductions on your federal tax return?
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), taxpayers can deduct the fair market value of donated items such as clothing, household goods, furniture, shoes, and books. Fair market value is defined as the price a willing buyer would pay for these items, usually depending on their condition. It's important to note that charities are not permitted by law to assign a value to your donated items; this is your responsibility. To determine the fair market value of your donations:
-
Consult a local tax advisor familiar with market values in your area.
-
Review IRS tax guides, such as Determining the Value of Donated Property, which explains fair market value and provides guidance on valuing donated items. It also details the documentation needed to support your charitable contribution deduction.
If you're claiming over $5,000 in contribution value, you'll need to complete the "Donor Acknowledgement" section in Section B, Part IV of IRS Form 8283. The form and instructions are available on the IRS website.
Upon request, ACTS will provide a receipt as proof of your donations in good used condition on the date of donation. You can request a receipt when dropping off items during one of our professional clothes drive.
